About the Role:

A leading healthcare and pharmaceutical organisation is seeking a Director of Data & AI Solution Architecture to join its central Data Office. This strategic role is focused on building the foundational architecture needed to support AI-driven innovation across the organisation. Working closely with technical and business teams, you’ll define, design, and implement scalable, secure, and integrated architectures that support enterprise-wide data and AI initiatives.

You’ll play a key role in aligning technology design with the broader data strategy and governance frameworks. From evaluating technologies to shaping architecture patterns for data and AI platforms, you will ensure robust integration and long-term scalability. This role combines deep architectural expertise with a strong understanding of the needs and regulatory expectations of healthcare and pharma environments.

Key Responsibilities:

Architectural Leadership

• Define and maintain an enterprise-grade data and AI architecture aligned with business priorities
• Develop standards for data integration, processing, storage, and governance
• Provide strategic technical guidance to engineering teams, ensuring system performance and compliance
• Evaluate current systems and processes to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation

Data & AI Solution Design

• Lead the design of scalable data pipelines, data lakes, and AI platforms
• Ensure all solutions align with regulatory and data governance standards
• Create blueprints, documentation, and patterns for secure and governed AI and data infrastructure
• Drive architecture that supports rapid delivery while maintaining data quality and reliability

Technical Oversight & Collaboration

• Oversee the technical delivery of AI products from a data and infrastructure perspective
• Collaborate across teams: including data science, product, and engineering – to integrate AI solutions seamlessly
• Ensure all implementations are secure, reliable, and meet industry standards (e.g., data privacy, interoperability)
• Continuously assess new technologies and determine alignment with future needs

Team Leadership & Development

• Mentor and grow a team of architects and engineers, enabling skill development and career growth
• Promote the use of modern frameworks and tooling across the architecture function
• Lead technical training related to data platforms, governance, and AI integration

Qualifications & Experience:

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 12+ years of experience in technology architecture or engineering, with 7+ years in data and AI-focused architecture
• Strong track record in designing scalable, cloud-based data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Expertise in data modelling, integration, governance, and security in complex environments
• Familiarity with AI infrastructure needs and deployment patterns
• Experience working across different types of databases, including relational and NoSQL

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s or Ph.D. in a relevant technical discipline
• Hands-on experience with machine learning and deep learning platforms
• Previous work in regulated industries, ideally healthcare or life sciences
• Experience leading teams in matrixed, cross-functional environments
• Certifications in data governance, data management, or cloud architecture
