THE CLIENT

Our client is a tech-bio startup that develops cutting-edge AI methods in genome, protein and large language models to accelerate drug discovery and translational medicine. Due to their rapid growth they are looking to expand their team in Basel, Zurich and Lausanne.

YOUR ROLE:

We are seeking a highly skilled Frontend Engineer to lead the development of user-facing features for a next-generation AI research platform. This role is instrumental in creating intuitive, responsive, and interactive interfaces that allow researchers to seamlessly interact with large language models and AI-powered tools. Working closely with product, design, backend and AI teams, you will take ownership of building a user experience that revolutionizes the research process.

This position requires a frontend expert with strong UI/UX sensibilities, deep technical capabilities, and a collaborative mindset to deliver high-quality, performant, and scalable web applications in a fast-paced environment.

YOUR TASKS:

• You will develop intuitive and interactive frontend interfaces for a next-gen AI research platform used by scientists and researchers.
• You will create high-quality wireframes, mockups, and prototypes using Figma to clearly visualize complex AI functionalities.
• You will write clean, scalable, and maintainable frontend code with a focus on performance, usability, and cross-browser compatibility.
• You will ensure the application is responsive and functional across a wide range of devices and screen sizes.
• You will stay up to date with emerging web technologies and recommend modern frameworks, tools or approaches to continuously improve the frontend experience.
• You will collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, Backend Engineers and AI Researchers to align frontend implementation with product and research objectives.
• You will define and conduct rigorous testing, debugging and validation of all frontend features to ensure the highest quality and reliability.
• You will clearly communicate design choices, development progress and feature performance to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• You will continuously refine development workflows and documentation to support scalable and efficient engineering practices.
• You will contribute to the evolution of the product by staying informed on technologies such as WebAssembly, WebSockets, GraphQL, SSR and PWA.

REQUIREMENTS

• Proven experience as a Frontend Engineer with a strong portfolio of interactive web applications or AI-driven platforms.
• Expertise in modern frontend frameworks such as React, Vue, Angular, Svelte, Next.js or Remix.
• Excellent command of JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML and CSS.
• Strong experience in UI/UX design tools, especially Figma, for prototyping and wireframing.
• Familiarity with modern web architecture patterns and frontend performance optimization.
• Experience working in agile, cross-functional teams with iterative product development cycles.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in close collaboration with backend, product and AI teams.
• Previous experience in a fast-paced startup environment is a strong advantage.
• Familiarity with AI/ML applications or the biotech/pharma/research sector is a plus.
• Fluency in English is required; German or French is beneficial depending on office location.
• Willingness to work across distributed teams and travel occasionally to offices in Basel, Zurich or Lausanne as needed.
