A Local State Government Entity is looking for a Cybersecurity Consultant to join their team!

Hays has partnered with a state government entity to appoint a Cybersecurity Consultant to an initial 9-month contract with the potential to extend.

Your new role

To thrive in this role, you'll bring a strong foundation in cloud infrastructure and security operations, along with a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.

• Cloud Infrastructure Expertise: Proven experience working with AWS and Azure, including day-to-day operational tasks and cloud resource management.
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Hands-on experience with tools such as Terraform, GitLab, and Ansible to automate and manage infrastructure deployments.
• Security & Vulnerability Management: Familiarity with vulnerability management tools and strategies, as well as techniques for application whitelisting and endpoint protection.
• Security Tools & Platforms: Practical experience with a range of security solutions including: Proofpoint, Carbon Black, Microsoft Defender, Sentinel Splunk, Palo Alto Networks, F5 Networks - In particular, deep expertise in Microsoft Sentinel-developing and tuning analytics rules, building workbooks and playbooks, and managing data connectors.
• Identity & Access Management: Experience in hardening user accounts within an Active Directory environment, applying best practices for secure identity management.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will need to have the following:

• Strong foundational knowledge of networking, including TCP/IP protocols, subnetting, routing, and common diagnostic tools.
• A solid understanding of key cybersecurity frameworks, such as the ASD Essential Eight, IS18, and ISO/IEC 27001, with the ability to apply these in practical, real-world scenarios.
• Awareness of global cybersecurity trends, including emerging threats, attack vectors, and adversarial techniques, along with a proactive mindset toward risk mitigation and security best practices.

In return, you will be offered an initial 9-month contract with the potential to extend within a great local government organisation where you will be compensated at an attractive hourly rate dependent on experience.
