• Initial Engagement: 12-month contract + 6 months extensions (Based on the discretion of the Department)

About The Position

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Data Analyst to deliver evidence-based insights that inform Australia's strategic engagement and influence across Southeast Asia.

You will be responsible for researching, building, and maintaining data products that highlight trends in key sectors and indicators of Australia's regional footprint. The position demands a strong blend of technical expertise, analytical problem-solving, and the ability to translate complex data into actionable intelligence for decision-makers.

Core Responsibilities:

• Lead the development and delivery of data products and dashboards using Power BI, Excel, Python/R, and SQL.

• Manage the complete data analytics lifecycle: sourcing, ETL, wrangling, cleaning, mining, and advanced visualisation.

• Deliver clear, policy-relevant insights to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring data is accessible and compelling.

• Apply creative and innovative approaches to address complex data collection and analysis challenges.

• Ensure the accuracy, currency, and secure management of datasets across multiple platforms.

• Communicate findings through engaging reports, visualisations, and presentations to influence policy and strategy.

• Provide timely data-driven advice to senior leadership and policy teams, supporting strategic decision-making in Australia's Southeast Asia engagement.

What We Are Looking For:

• Proven experience in Power BI and Excel, with demonstrated capability across the full analytics lifecycle

• Strong proficiency in Python/R and SQL (highly desirable).

• Advanced skills in data wrangling, cleansing, mining, and presentation.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical insights to non-technical audiences.

• Analytical mindset with a focus on accuracy, detail, and problem-solving.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

• Prior experience in government, international policy, or data-focused roles is highly regarded.

• Tertiary qualifications in Data Analytics, Statistics, Economics, or related discipline preferred (not essential).
