Senior Application and Web Administrator

A large international logistics and infrastructure organization is seeking a Senior Application and Web Administrator to manage and optimize its web application infrastructure. This is a key role responsible for the administration, configuration, and monitoring of multiple web services and Apache Foundation technologies—including HTTPD, Tomcat, and Kafka—while ensuring security, performance, and availability across environments.

This position reports directly to the European Database Manager and will be embedded in a collaborative, cross-functional IT environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Web Application Administration

• Act as the lead administrator for web services such as Apache HTTPD, Tomcat, and Kafka.
• Ensure the security, uptime, and performance of web infrastructures.
• Monitor systems to proactively identify and resolve performance issues.
• Manage SSL/TLS certificates, upgrades, patches, and service hardening.
• Collaborate closely with database, infrastructure, and development teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
• Maintain knowledge of web proxy technologies and their interactions with applications.

Monitoring & Reporting:

• Build dashboards and alerts using tools like Grafana, OpenTelemetry, and Prometheus.
• Collect metrics and logs to provide visibility into performance and system health.

Automation & Security:

• Utilize Kafka for event streaming and data integration.
• Automate deployment and configuration management using Ansible and YAML.
• Actively support system hardening, vulnerability management, and compliance efforts.

Collaboration & Support:

• Partner with infrastructure, security, and development teams to align services with business needs.
• Maintain up-to-date documentation covering configurations, processes, and troubleshooting guides.
• Provide excellent internal stakeholder support and foster a knowledge-sharing culture.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

• Required Skills & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in web infrastructure or systems administration.
• Proficiency managing Apache HTTP Server and Tomcat within Linux environments.
• Strong understanding of SSL/TLS management and web security practices.
• Familiarity with web proxies and their configuration.
• Experience with monitoring tools like Grafana, Prometheus, or OpenTelemetry.
• Working knowledge of scripting (Bash, PowerShell, Python).
• Exposure to relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Oracle) and willingness to learn others such as Progress OpenEdge.
• Excellent communication skills with a proactive, analytical mindset.
• Ability to balance independent work with cross-team collaboration.
