Position: Senior Scrum Master

Location: Hybrid – minimum two days a week on-site in the Groningen area

Rate: €105/hour

Overview

A government-affiliated IT organization in the northern Netherlands is seeking a highly capable Scrum Master to support two agile teams focused on system integration and access management. These teams have recently been restructured into two separate units, and now face the challenge of managing a broad service portfolio that includes planned, unplanned, and project-related work.

They are looking for someone who is not only proficient in agile facilitation but who can also help drive team maturity and continuous improvement. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced professional to make a significant impact on agile practices and delivery within a dynamic technical environment.

About the Teams

You’ll be supporting two separate teams consisting of 6–7 IT professionals each. One team manages integration platforms using technologies like MQ, ESB, and managed file transfers. The other develops and supports systems related to identity and access control, as well as secure communication between internal and external applications.

These systems play a key role within a broader enterprise landscape that includes over 2,000 servers and supports dozens of internal development teams and external government partners. The teams you’ll work with balance operational stability with a strong push toward modernization, automation, and offering services through self-service platforms.

Your Responsibilities

• Serve as a facilitator for Scrum events such as sprints, retrospectives, and planning sessions
• Work closely with Product Owners to maintain team focus and ensure alignment with priorities
• Coach team members on agile principles and collaborative practices
• Assist in onboarding new staff and help them quickly integrate into team workflows
• Support team efforts during incident response or unexpected challenges
• Foster a culture of transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement

The specific teams in this role support the foundational services that underpin authentication, authorization, and secure data transfer — both internally and with national agencies.

Requirements (Must-Haves)

• Higher professional education level (HBO or equivalent)
• Fluent in Dutch (spoken and written)
• Minimum 3 years of experience with agile frameworks in technical environments
• At least 5 years of hands-on Scrum/Agile delivery experience (Scrum, Kanban, DevOps, SAFe)
• Certified Scrum Master (PSM I or equivalent), held for 3+ years

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves)

• Previous experience in infrastructure-heavy or enterprise IT environments
• Working knowledge of platform operations and related tooling
• Familiarity with operating within large, complex organizations
• Proven ability to guide multi-disciplinary or hybrid agile teams
