Write code like a dev, think like an architect, ship like an ops lead
Position: Permanent
Work environment: Remote
Location: Alberta or British Columbia
Salary: Up to $150,000/yr
Position overview
Hammehr invites applications for the role of Cloud Engineer on behalf of our client for a full-time permanent opportunity. This role supports a lean infrastructure team that’s looking for someone to help them bring clarity to complex Azure projects, shape practical solutions, and support better technical decision-making across the board. The company works closely with mid-sized clients to help them move forward without recreating past mistakes. That often means building systems that are simple to run but hard to design. The environment is fast-moving but grounded. You’ll have the space to work independently, the freedom to shape outcomes, and teammates who are strong individually but still evolving together.
What you'll do
- Sit in on client calls where the scope is fuzzy and the stakes are real
- Build Azure environments that hold up under pressure, even when requirements shift
- Choose between Terraform, Bicep, or something else based on what the problem actually needs
- Translate loosely defined asks into decisions other people will have to live with
- Work with a team that values curiosity over credentials
- Share what you’ve learned in ways that help others move faster, not just sound smarter
- Jump into technical gaps without needing permission
- Balance cost, performance, and simplicity so the solution works after you hand it off
Basic qualifications
- 5+ years in infrastructure, DevOps, or cloud engineering, with at least 3 years focused on Azure in production environments
- Experience designing or co-leading technical delivery for cloud projects involving multiple teams or stakeholders
- Proficiency in infrastructure as code, especially with Bicep, Terraform, or equivalent tools
- Past work in settings where you were both building solutions and helping others make sense of them
- Comfort working through unclear requirements and guiding decisions without needing full authority
Preferred Qualifications
- You’ve earned Azure certifications like AZ-104, AZ-305, or AZ-400 and used them to make better infrastructure choices
- Experience working across both delivery and consulting teams — you know how to balance real-world tradeoffs with long-term design
- You’ve built infra with both Terraform and Bicep, and have opinions about when to use which
- Past experience mentoring teammates or guiding cross-functional stakeholders through infrastructure changes
The Challenges
- You’ll often start work before the full plan is in place
- Some existing decisions need to be worked around rather than rebuilt
- You'll shape team patterns and culture by how you show up, not through formal authority
Your impact
- Help clients break out of short-term habits and build infrastructure they can actually grow with
- Bring stability and structure to a team that’s capable but still forming
- Surface the small architectural decisions that unlock better delivery, stronger outcomes, and the occasional quiet breakthrough
