Role Purpose

We're looking for a motivated Junior Data Scientist who contributes to data science projects focused on the delivery of tangible business value from data, understands data in the context of the business process, and contributes to proving value before submitting for implementation.

The role will be based in Bonn, Germany, or Maastricht, Netherlands.

How will you contribute to the success of DHL?

• Support the execution of data analytics projects in collaboration with the supervisor/project lead.
• Involvement in the analysis of the business processes as well as the derivation of problem areas and analytical requirements.
• Identification and collection of required data, as well as data cleansing.
• Develop and implement prototypes for the business users.
• Support the anchoring of data-driven decisions in operating business through the building up of specialist methodical knowledge and knowledge transfer from successfully completed projects.
• Derive analytical requirements, select, and execute appropriate mathematical methods, and interpret the results with guidance from the supervisor.
• Manage contact with internal and external customers on data analytics topics at the work and specialist level with limited guidance from the project lead.
• Relationship management with internal and external expert networks in the data analytics field.
  
  
  

Do you have what it takes?

• University degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or related natural sciences / technical degree, or comparable qualification.
• Deep knowledge of machine learning, statistics, and/or mathematical optimization.
• Being familiar with analyzing complex datasets and building mathematical models (theoretical or practical).
• Having programming skills or experience in scripting languages (Python, R, or Java).
• Ability to produce creative analytical solutions based on clear and thorough analyses of complex processes and business relationships.
• Comfortable explaining complex analytical and technical content to various audiences.
• Strong team player, energetic, and success-oriented problem solver.
• Independent work ethic, integrity, and loyalty, positive “can-do” attitude.
