To strengthen Swappie’s tech team on our path to profitability, we are looking for a new team member who wants to make a real difference for the environment and help make refurbished electronics mainstream. We now have an opening for an:
ENGINEERING MANAGER, REFURBISHMENT - Tallinn
who will lead a team of six full-stack software engineers based in Finland and Estonia, within our Refurbishment product team.
The Refurbishment product area is one of our five cross-functional product areas, each dedicated to solving customer problems in its domain. The purpose of the Refurbishment product team is to support manual processing capabilities and develop automation solutions for Swappie refurbishment facilities to increase throughput and quality, and decrease operating expenses and work-in-progress inventory.
As an Engineering Manager at Swappie, you will have a great opportunity to apply your leadership and mentoring skills and lead your team of Software Engineers at various levels of seniority as part of a cross-functional product development team. You are responsible for providing the team with guidance and support in their daily work, supporting their career development, and aligning the team’s goals with our business ambitions.
The tech team works with Python, Django, TypeScript, Node.js, React, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, and Google Cloud.
You will collaborate closely with other Engineering Managers, Product Managers, Designers, Data Analysts, and other stakeholders across the organisation. In this role, you will report to the Head of Product Development of the Refurbishment product area. You will lead your team to thrive in an organisation of highly talented, fun, and supportive professionals whose work has a concrete impact on both solving the global e-waste problem and driving Swappie’s future success.
IN THIS ROLE YOU GET A CHANCE TO
- Lead the software development of the Refurbishment product area from discovery to delivery: planning, delivering software to production, retrospectives, and celebrating wins together.
- Coach and mentor a software development team of six full-stack engineers at various seniority levels.
- Be accountable for the technical and operational excellence of your team’s systems and services.
- Ensure the team has all the necessary resources and ways of working in place to solve concrete customer problems in an impactful way - Swappie engineers don’t just write code; they create impact.
- Engage your team in their daily work and remove possible blockers.
- Work together with product team members and stakeholders to evaluate new opportunities and decide on what to build next.
WE WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU
- Have proven leadership experience: you have previously supported, motivated, mentored, coached, and empowered individuals and teams.
- Collaborate and communicate well with non-technical stakeholders.
- Have a proven track record of creating customer value through software development - you care about impact on our customers and business, not just the tech.
- Possess strong understanding of agile software development and operational excellence.
- Have a thorough understanding of one modern tech stack and familiarity with technologies used at Swappie, especially fluency in Python and Django.
- Are fluent in English, our working language.
- Previous experience in Manufacturing Execution Systems, Warehouse Management Systems, Automation Control Systems, or Machine Learning is a definite plus.
YOU WOULD BE A GREAT TEAM MEMBER AT SWAPPIE IF YOU
- Are able to prioritise both your own and your team’s daily workload.
- Have a can-do attitude combined with endless optimism and impact-orientation.
- Are result-oriented and able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Are flexible and able to work both independently and with a team.
- Are proactive with a growth mindset.
- Take ownership and share knowledge.
- Have passion for developing not only your own work, but also the teams and organisation around you.
