About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Developer with expertise in Elixir, Ruby, and Go to join a rapidly growing tech company that is revolutionizing the Internet of Things (IoT) space. This remote-first position offers the flexibility of working from anywhere within the UK, with the requirement of being onsite in Chester once a month. The successful candidate will become an integral part of a talented engineering team responsible for developing and maintaining a cutting-edge, microservice-driven platform hosted on AWS. The role provides an exciting opportunity to work on a major product that serves thousands of businesses across the UK and beyond, contributing to innovative solutions in a high-growth environment. You will be involved in designing scalable systems, supporting team members, and making key architectural decisions that influence the company's technological direction.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in backend development, particularly with Elixir and Ruby.
• Experience with Go language is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of microservice architecture and cloud-based platforms, especially AWS.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment processes.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in an Agile environment.
• Demonstrated leadership qualities, including mentoring less experienced developers and setting high engineering standards.
• Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams including Product, QA, and DevOps.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  
  

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust backend systems using Elixir and Ruby, with support for Go where applicable.
• Ensure high code quality through adherence to best practices, code reviews, and automated testing.
• Lead by example in establishing engineering standards, delivery timelines, and technical excellence.
• Support and mentor junior developers, fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture.
• Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to strategic decisions regarding platform scalability and security.
• Work closely with Product teams to understand requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
• Coordinate with QA and DevOps teams to ensure smooth deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of services.
• Take an active role during critical delivery windows, providing hands-on support to meet project deadlines.
• Continuously evaluate and implement improvements to existing systems and processes to enhance performance and reliability.
