About the Role: The Backend Engineer / API Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining front-end API frameworks to meet business requirements. He/she will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration between internal/external systems and Azure cloud environment. This position combines API development expertise with Azure cloud skills to build and optimize highly available, secure, and scalable API endpoints.

What you'll do:

• Design, develop, and maintain APIs using designated programming languages
• Collaborate with Azure Data Engineers to ensure seamless integration of API functionality with the data platform
• Onboard external systems to integrate with the API framework for data exchange in batch and real-time modes
• Develop, manage, and deploy secure, scalable, and efficient REST APIs to ingest data from external sources and expose endpoints for data extraction from the Azure storage layer

What you'll bring:

• Expertise in RESTful API development using .NET, with strong implementation of clean architecture, modular programming, and API standards
• Design and develop secure, scalable APIs integrated with Azure services (Blob Storage, Databricks), external systems, and databases
• Implement authentication/authorization (OAuth, Entra ID), API security, and load balancing using Azure APIM, App Gateway, WAF, and NSGs
• Optimize API performance, versioning, throttling, routing, caching, and ensure proper exception handling, logging, and monitoring
• Build CI/CD pipelines and containerized deployments on Azure; ensure compliance with security, governance, and PII handling policies
• Conduct comprehensive testing (unit, integration, performance), API documentation (Swagger), and use tools like Postman for automation
• Create and maintain technical documentation including architecture diagrams and scaling configurations
• Familiarity with PySpark and data engineering pipelines is a plus
