Purpose


The Cyber Security Assistant is responsible for the day to day administration of the Information Security Management System (ISMS) in addition to the administration and maintenance of enterprise systems.


Key Tasks & Duties



In this exciting role you will undertake the following duties:


  • Assist in implementing and monitoring security measures to safeguard computer networks and information.
  • Support senior team members in assessing system vulnerabilities, proposing risk mitigation strategies, and implementing them.
  • Ensure the maintenance of appropriate security controls to protect digital files and vital electronic infrastructure.
  • Aid in responding to computer security breaches and viruses, guided by senior engineers.
  • Participate in security event monitoring and correlation activities within a tiered Security Operations Center (SOC), while learning from and supporting senior team members.
  • Assist in detecting and responding to IT security incidents using Cyber Network Defense (CND) analyst toolsets under the supervision of experienced engineers.
  • Conduct research on threats, document their behaviors, and monitor updates from external Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs) and Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs).
  • Support the team in providing recommendations for threat mitigation strategies.
  • Assist in performing routine event reporting over time, including trend reporting and analysis.


Key skills and experience required:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience
  • a passion for cyber security and a keen interest in IT
  • excellent IT skills, including knowledge of computer networks, operating systems, software, hardware and security
  • an understanding of the cyber security risks associated with various technologies and ways to manage them
  • a good working knowledge of various security technologies such as network and application firewalls, host intrusion prevention and anti-virus
  • analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and assess risks, threats, patterns and trends
  • teamworking skills for collaborating with team members and clients
  • verbal communication skills, including presentation skills, with an ability to communicate with a range of technical and non-technical team members and other relevant individuals
  • written communication skills, for example to write technical reports
  • time-management and organisational skills to manage a variety of tasks and meet deadlines
  • the ability to multitask and prioritise your workload
  • excellent attention to detail
  • an ability to work under pressure, particularly when dealing with threats and at times of high demand.
