We’re on the lookout for passionate individuals across both Country Victoria and Metro Melbourne to help grow our game and connect communities through footy – in two unique but equally exciting roles.

Country Victoria – Running AFL programs in the community

Metro Melbourne – AFL Nines Umpiring & Competition facilitation

Country Victoria

In regional country areas across Victoria, AFL is continuing to grow, and we’re looking for passionate people to help us build strong connections in local communities. You’ll play a vital role in introducing kids to the game, many for the very first time – and helping sport be more inclusive, fun, and accessible.

Country Victoria: A Day in the Life – What You’ll Do.

As a Game Development Officer, You’ll Be The Heartbeat Of The AFL In The Community, Creating Unforgettable Experiences That Connect Kids, Schools, And Families To The Game. You’ll

  • Deliver the Game: Run dynamic Auskick, Superkick, AFL Nines, School clinics and School Holiday Programs that spark a lifelong love of footy.
  • Build Community Connections: Create pathways for people to connect with AFL through junior and senior clubs, fostering a sense of belonging and unity through the game.
  • Promote our Game: attend schools for promotional activities such as Kick to Kicks, assembly visits and come and plays out in the community
  • Plenty more fun: support AFL club-based activations, champion Inclusion & diversity programs and other duties where required

Metro Melbourne

In Metro Melbourne, we’re making AFL more accessible for people aged 13 and up, from first timers to seasoned players. AFL Nines is a fast, fun, and inclusive version of the game designed for those who love friendly competition with low commitment. It’s social, welcoming, and all about keeping the connection to footy alive. We’re looking for enthusiastic, energetic individuals who are passionate about sport, community, and creating great game-day experiences.

Metro Melbourne: A Day in the Life – What You’ll Do.

As a Game Development Officer, you’ll be a key part of delivering AFL Nines competitions across Metro Melbourne, helping participants feel engaged, supported, and excited to play.

You’ll

  • Deliver the Game: Bring strong communication skills, a positive mindset, and a proactive approach to running smooth and enjoyable competitions.
  • Lead with Confidence: Officiate AFL Nines games with consistency, fairness, and clarity – ensuring a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all.
  • Be a Team Player: Your friendly and approachable nature will help create a welcoming atmosphere and leave participants looking forward to each week.

As a Game Development Officer, You’ll Be The Heartbeat Of The AFL Competitions In The Community, Creating Fun Experiences That Connect Kids, Schools, And Families To The Game. You’ll

  • Deliver the Game: with excellent verbal communication skills, a can-do attitude and strong personal initiative
  • Confidence is Key: be confident in officiating AFL Nines games, ensuring a safe, inclusive and respectful environment while being a champion of the rules and applying with consistently
  • Positive attitude: bring an approachable and personal manner that contributes to a positive and enjoyable experience for all participants

What You Need to Know – Flexibility and Impact: This is a casual role, perfect for those who thrive in dynamic, community-focused environments.

Hours can vary, ranging from quick, two-hour shifts to longer stints during peak program periods. Flexibility is key – some weeks may be busier than others, so if you’re adaptable and ready to jump in when needed, this role is for you.

Most Shifts Typically Occur

  • During school hours for school programs
  • Before or after school for Auskick and Superkick
  • After school for AFL Nines

With flexible hours that can work around studies, family, or other commitments, it’s an ideal opportunity for students in education or recreation, parents or carers re-entering the workforce, or anyone seeking casual, community-focused work with purpose.

DESIRABLE

Tertiary qualifications or currently studying Sports Management, Sports Science, Sports Coaching, Recreation, Education or equivalent depth of experience.

Established ability to bring together and coordinate a diverse range of stakeholders.

This position is only for applicants wishing to work with the AFL in North West Tasmania — there are currently no vacancies in Southern or Northern Tasmania.
