Part-Time Embedded Systems Engineer (Autonomous Legged Robots & Agricultural Vehicles)

Our projects include robotic arms and cutting-edge agricultural robots, all of which operate autonomously. About the Role:

We are seeking a talented and motivated Embedded Systems Engineer to join our team at Aware Robotics. You will play a key role in the development of autonomous legged (quadruped) and autonomous agricultural vehicle platforms. Your contributions will directly impact mission-critical robotic systems used in defence and precision agriculture.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop real-time embedded software for microcontrollers (e.g., STM32, ESP32, NXP, etc.)
• Integrate sensors (IMU, GPS, LiDAR, encoders, ultrasonic, etc.) and actuators (motors, servos, BLDCs)
• Optimise communication interfaces (UART, CAN, SPI, I2C) for multi-module integration
• Implement safety, fault detection, and watchdog mechanisms
• Collaborate with control and perception teams to deploy real-time control and navigation modules
• Assist with PCB design reviews and hardware bring-up
• Conduct testing, debugging, and system-level validation in field conditions
• ROS1/ROS2 knowledge

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, Robotics, or related field
• Strong experience in embedded C/C++ programming
• Hands-on experience with RTOS or bare-metal systems
• Familiarity with low-level motor drivers, power management, and communication protocols
• Experience in robotic applications (preferably quadruped or autonomous vehicles)
• Ability to work with cross-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced R&D environment
• Bonus: , Git version control, Python scripting, PCB prototyping
