The Cyber Security Engineer's primary purpose is to function as a trusted advisor to strategically improve Ascend clients' cybersecurity posture. The Cyber Security Engineer will assist the VCISO team in delivering technical guidance and configuration support. Ascend offers comprehensive cybersecurity programs for mid-market clients based on established frameworks such as NIST CSF, CIS Controls, and HIPAA Omnibus. A core function of this role centers around vulnerability management. Cyber Security Engineers will conduct Weekly or monthly meetings to both understand and guide customers on how to increase their security posture through several different vulnerability management platforms. Additional work will be centered around Ascends cybersecurity services.
Responsibilities
- Provision and configure vulnerability management platforms
- Consult with customers and internal teams on vulnerability analysis, prioritization, and remediation strategies
- Manage and track technical remediation efforts
- Develop new reports and customer dashboards as requested.
- Conduct architecture reviews to identify gaps and vulnerabilities
- Integrate security controls into network, system, cloud, and application architectures
- Collaborate with IT engineers to ensure secure configurations across platforms
- Assist clients in processing inbound and outbound security questionnaires (vendor management).
- Collaborate with Ascend Cybersecurity Leadership to identify areas of improvement using data analytics to provide predictive and prescriptive advice to our internal and external customers.
- Facilitate change, knowledge, and team understanding of the client environment and need as priorities shift.
- Create and maintain documentation on an ongoing basis as processes and technologies evolve
- Instill a security culture company-wide to foster security awareness and collaboration
- Apply knowledge of security principles and best practices to daily tasks
- Other responsibilities assigned by management
- Strong working knowledge of vulnerability management, patch management, network security, application security, data loss prevention, privilege and identity
- Preferred Cyber Security background of 1 year with both troubleshooting and configuration experience.
- Experience in data processing, analysis, and reporting.
- Demonstrable track record of accomplishment and success.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and team-building skills.
- Preferred Cybersecurity Certifications include (SC200, AZ500, Security +) or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must be able to sit, stand, and bend for the duration of shift. The position is mainly sitting, with occasional lifting up to 50 lbs, such as laptop, server equipment, and, driving to the work site to meet with client(s).
Salary Expectations: $65,000-$75,000
The salary for this position is commensurate with experience, skills, and qualifications. The range is intended to reflect our commitment to attracting top talent, and the final offer will be based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's previous experience, expertise in the field, relevant certifications, and the specific requirements of the role. In addition, internal equity, market trends, and geographic location may also influence the final salary.
