Data Scientist

• 12 months with a possible 12-month extension
• Canberra (ACT)
• Australian Citizenship is mandatory
• Proficiency in Python or R, experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and 4+ years of actuarial / data scientist experience

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a technically focused team and contribute to the development of a world-leading initiative. As an APS6 Data Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in applying advanced data science techniques to solve complex problems, support strategic planning, and drive innovation. Your work will directly impact the effectiveness of key initiatives and outcomes.

Your duties will include:

• Conducting research and implementing innovative AI and data science techniques to address business challenges
• Designing statistical and mathematical models to support analytical work and new product development
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams and building strong stakeholder relationships
• Communicating findings effectively through written and verbal presentations tailored to diverse audiences
• Supporting strategic planning, program management, and policy development
• Undertaking ad hoc modelling and data science tasks to advance key projects and initiatives

Skills and Experience we are looking for:

• A minimum of 4 years of experience in actuarial or data science roles
• Strong stakeholder engagement and management skills
• Proficiency in Python or R for data manipulation, analysis, and model development
• Demonstrated experience in applying AI techniques, particularly NLP, to extract information and design decision-support systems
• Desirable: Proficiency in SQL and familiarity with data storage systems such as AWS S3
• Desirable: Knowledge of Language Models, Generative AI, and AI Assurance and Governance frameworks
