Company overview
The Three Thousands Studios is a premier creative studio blurring the lines between gaming, lifestyle, and brands. Our team has worked on some of the world’s biggest franchises—and now, we’re channeling that experience into bold, original games that push boundaries. Based in Melbourne, we are committed to utilizing local game dev talent (that’s why we’re named after the postcode – local matters!). Join us to be part of a team that’s driving the future of games and local game development.
Role summary
We’re looking for a creative and technically skilled Generalist 3D Environment Artist to join our growing art team on an exciting new mobile-first game currently in development. This role is central to shaping the visual language of the game world — vibrant, playful, and full of personality.
You’ll be responsible for crafting engaging environments and 3D assets that not only look great but enhance gameplay and performance across mobile platforms. From concept to implementation, you’ll help bring our stylised world to life.
Role Responsibilities
- Create a wide range of high-quality 3D assets for stylized environments that align with the art direction and optimized for mobile platforms.
- Collaborate with all disciplines of the development team, from art and design to engineering, problem solving and working together to ensure environments feel fun and immersive.
- Participate in playtests, share and receive feedback from a team that encourages open discussion and collaboration.
- Follow and contribute to documentation for visual guidelines, workflows, for best practices and consistency.
- Deliver on content creation from concept to implementation in Unreal Engine.
Our game has a strong focus on vehicles, tracks, and driving gameplay, so a passion for cars, racing environments, or track-based games would be a huge plus. We're particularly interested in artists who can inject energy and style into these elements, making them pop for our players.
Qualifications
- 2+ years experience working as a 3D artist or environment artist in a game development setting.
- Proficiency in industry-standard tools such as Maya, Blender, Photoshop and Substance Suite.
- Comfortable working with real-time game engines, such as Unreal Engine & Unity.
- Experience with performance considerations for portable devices, mobile & VR (poly counts, texture budgets, etc).
- An eye for creating engaging artwork, composition, colour theory, proportion and scale.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, you're as comfortable discussing design ideas as much as you are building them.
- Self-directed, proactive, ability to problem solve and comfortable working in a fast-paced, creative environment.
Bonus points
- Experience working on racing games or vehicle focused gameplay and content.
- Basic knowledge of VFX, lighting, material or shader creation.
- A love for building playful, experimental, or physics-based game worlds.
What we can offer you
- Flexibility: Option to work from home or from the office (no mandatory days in office!)
- Creative environment: We’re just starting up, so innovation and experimentation is highly valued and encouraged!
We’re a passionate team that thrives on creativity, technology, and fun, with a mission to push the boundaries of mobile gaming. If you’re excited about the opportunity to make an impact in the world of mobile racing games and accelerate your career in game development, we’d love to hear from you.
Let’s build the next generation of racing games together!
