Staff Software Engineer – Capital One Canada

📍 Toronto, ON | Hybrid – 3 days onsite | Full-Time

Be the technical leader driving innovation in Canadian FinTech.

We’re searching for a Staff Software Engineer with deep expertise in Java, AWS, and scalable architecture to join our growing technology team. In this senior, hands-on role, you’ll design, build, and optimize mission-critical systems while mentoring engineers and shaping our technical strategy.

What You’ll Do

✅ Lead the technical design and development of secure, high-performance applications.

✅ Define engineering best practices — from code quality standards to tooling improvements.

✅ Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, fostering growth and technical excellence.

✅ Drive adoption of AWS cloud services, microservices, and RESTful APIs.

✅ Partner with product managers and UX teams to deliver customer-first solutions.

✅ Contribute to architecture roadmaps ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

What We’re Looking For

• 8+ years in software development (Java, Kotlin, or other OOP languages).
• Proven experience in architecture, system design, and end-to-end application development.
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS (Azure or Google Cloud also considered).
• Skilled at mentoring and influencing engineering teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Bonus: 10+ years in development and experience leading Agile delivery teams.
