Job Title: HPC Software Engineer - Application Porting (Contract)
Rate: Up to $810 per day
Duration: 2-3 months
Location: Sydney CBD (1-2 days onsite per week, hybrid)
About the Role
A leading global technology consultancy is seeking an experienced HPC Software Engineer for a short-term contract (2-3 months) to support a major High Performance Computing (HPC) migration project.
You will be responsible for porting application workloads from a primary HPC environment to a Disaster Recovery (DR) HPC system. The focus will be on ensuring all nominated applications are successfully migrated with minimal performance impact - no rewriting of application code is expected.
Key Responsibilities
- Port existing HPC applications to the DR HPC environment, ensuring execution performance does not exceed the primary system by more than 5%
- Perform minor enhancements or maintenance modifications as required
- Package and distribute applications/software across all environments in line with customer policies
- Utilise industry-leading HPC tools, including Intel OneAPO, Cray Programming Environment, Arm Forge (DDT & MAP), standards-compliant compilers (Fortran, C, C++, Python) with OpenMP and OpenACC, and an HPC-appropriate MPI library
- Promote code branches in GitLab for Fortran or IDL projects
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proficiency in Fortran and C (Python and shell scripting highly desirable)
- Familiarity with version control systems such as GitLab or GitHub
- Experience using conda for environment and package management
- Parallel programming expertise using MPI and OpenMP frameworks
Nice to Have
- Experience in HPC application porting or optimisation
- Exposure to scientific, modelling, or weather simulation workloads
