Position Summary

UltaAI is seeking a highly skilled AI Integration Engineer to design, implement, and optimize integrations with leading AI platforms such as OpenAI’s GPT models and Anthropic’s Claude. This role focuses on building a robust and scalable AI integration layer rather than developing AI/ML models from scratch. The ideal candidate will have strong backend engineering expertise, deep knowledge of API-based AI services, and a proven ability to deliver reliable, performant, and secure AI-powered features.

Key Responsibilities

Implement and maintain integration layers for OpenAI GPT-4 (and successors) and Claude, including failover mechanisms and response normalization.
Design and enforce protocols for model communication, request routing, caching strategies, and API resilience.
Ensure smooth failover between AI providers with consistent output formatting.
Monitor integration performance (latency, cost, availability) and optimize accordingly.
Implement safety measures such as rate limiting, token tracking, and prompt sanitization.
Build observability tools for AI APIs — dashboards, alerts, error logging.
Write and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for integration design, API contracts, and error handling protocols.
Stay updated on emerging AI integration standards such as the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
3+ years of experience in backend or integration engineering.
Proven experience with REST/WebSocket APIs and AI provider SDKs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.).
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Go, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
Experience with caching systems (e.g., Redis) and monitoring tools.
Strong understanding of API error handling, retry logic, rate limiting, and fallback strategies.
Familiarity with AI integration best practices, security considerations, and cost optimization techniques.

Preferred Competencies

Knowledge of AI service cost management and performance tuning.
Familiarity with cloud-based AI infrastructure and microservices.
Experience with API gateways, load balancing, and distributed systems.
Understanding of prompt engineering and AI safety mechanisms.
