Network Support Engineer

Job Focus:

The Network Support Engineer works in concert with the Principal Network Architect, NJEdge's technical team, contracted resources, and member network specialists with ongoing troubleshooting, installing, implementing, and administering network systems, and providing support and problem resolution to the membership. The Network Support Engineer also responds to technical inquiries, logs service and repair activities, creates manuals and guides, and updates and maintains all network documentation. The Network Support Engineer will have only limited travel to all colocation facilities to perform service as required.

**Must reside in New Jersey.**


Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the direction of NJEdge’s Principal Network Architect, the primary responsibility of this position is to manage the day-to-day network operational activities of the NJEdge packet network.


  • Configure and maintain Cisco Routers: ASR9902, NCS55X, NCS57X, 8201.
  • Support Core protocols: BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS/LDP.
  • Strong understanding of co-location operations, including facility infrastructure, power management, security procedures, and vendor coordination.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for network events and escalations.
  • Network Connectivity: Provides support for network connectivity or related network issues for the user community.
  • Ability to work with multiple vendors concurrently to resolve problems.
  • Network Monitoring: Analyzes network activity and network problems to discover and prevent systematic errors.
  • Issue Resolution: Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and resolves network problems. Researches, analyzes, and recommends the implementation of software or hardware changes to rectify any network deficiencies or to enhance the network performance. Perform all RMA processing.
  • Manage network inventory.
  • Perform required maintenance on all network hardware and software platforms.
  • Knowledge of commercial enterprise-level tools and products to provide network services, including DNS, DHCP, web security, TACACS+, VPN, and NAC.
  • Ability to work in a dynamically changing environment.


Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Document and communicate assigned work and progress to immediate project team, management, and member stakeholder personnel.
  • Communicate problems and/or issues in a timely manner and in accordance with established protocols for incident management and problem resolution.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with NJEdge staff, vendors, partners, and the membership.
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to provide clear and concise explanations of technology issues for nontechnical managers, directors, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide customer support with high levels of professional conduct.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as directed by the senior management of the NJEdge organization.


Qualifications:

Required

  • At least 5 years of relevant IT work experience.
  • Proven knowledge based on work experience with BGP, OSPF, STP, Multicast, SNMP, IPV6.
  • Experience providing support for a routed network.
  • Experience with Network diagnostic tools.
  • Knowledge of LINUX.
  • Must have a valid license that is in good standing; there will be driving.
  • Proficiency in systems installation and configuration, system security, and installation of software.
  • Knowledgeable in Automation Tools.



Qualifications:

Preferred

  • Knowledge of LINUX/UNIX, Windows, and other operating systems.
  • Related Cisco certifications including: Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), CCNA, CCDA, CCNP-SP.
  • Knowledgeable in Automation Tools.
  • 5 Years of Experience.


Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technology-centric discipline.
  • Years of professional experience in a comparable position may be substituted for post-secondary educational requirements.


Compensation and Benefits:

An annual salary of $140,000. Medical, dental, vision, short and long-term disability, and life insurance, 401(k) plan, paid time off (PTO) according to the company policy, and 10 paid holidays.
