Job Title: Engineering Project Manager

Duration: 12 months

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced CAPEX Program / Project Manager to lead and oversee capital investment projects aimed at resolving safety gaps for our well-known client in Bern Switzerland. Current initiatives focus on process safety improvements, fire safety upgrades, and other EHS-related enhancements.

The first priority will be managing the revamping of a chemical storage facility for flammable goods, while in parallel establishing a structured program for future safety-related projects. This role requires a strong background in capital project management, an understanding of EHS improvement initiatives, and the ability to manage complex, multi-disciplinary projects within the pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a comprehensive safety improvement program addressing identified safety gaps.
  • Lead capital projects from scoping and design through procurement, construction, qualification, and commissioning.
  • Manage multi-disciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring alignment with local and global strategic objectives.
  • Create and maintain integrated project plans, monitoring milestones, deliverables, and budgets to ensure timely completion.
  • Oversee and manage project risks, implementing effective mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure projects meet cGMP requirements and are compliant with FDA and other global regulatory standards.
  • Apply EHS by design principles to all projects.
  • Provide regular project updates (financial status, schedules, risks, current activities) to senior site management and global steering committees.
  • Guide teams through performance qualification and full project lifecycle completion.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, customer focus, and operational excellence.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or Life Sciences (MS/MBA/BS/BA or equivalent).
  • 10+ years of experience managing major capital projects in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proven program management experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of cGMP and pharmaceutical manufacturing operations in FDA-regulated environments.
  • In-depth understanding of project management principles and lifecycle phases, including validation, CMC, and facility regulatory submission processes.
  • Experience managing large project budgets and coordinating efforts across multiple functions.
  • Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to balance big-picture goals with detailed execution.
  • Fluency in German is mandatory; proficiency in English is essential.
