Position Overview
Our interesting project aims to develop a novel underwater robot having high-rigidity and high-precision manipulation capability along with on-structure locomotion capability. The robot design will employ serial/parallel kinematics and a certain on-structure attachment method, with modularity and reconfigurability taken into account, while optimize its performance (stiffness, workspace, accuracy, dexterity, maneuverability, weight, hydrodynamics, etc). The project will include design, prototyping, analysis, and testing/experiments. The project will utilize a state-of-the-art robotic pool at KU for testing. The developed robot will tackle underwater tasks that require high rigidity and high precision.
Job description: While working together in the research team, the research assistant will focus more on supporting the development of the robot prototype, which could include, but not limited to, the following activities:
• Preparing/refining drawings/CAD model for fabrication
• Working side by side with the internal/external fabrication workshop
• Doing CNC machining (milling and turning), manual machining, water jet and plasma cutting and other relevant operations in the machine shop
• Assembly, disassembly, and installation work during the prototyping
• Supporting the testing/experiments
Position Requirements
· Handling hardware and multitasking.
· Coordinating with the different project stakeholders.
· Adhere to the University's information security and confidentiality policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly
· Perform any other tasks assigned by the Line Manager
