Cisco Catalyst LAN & WLAN Consultant/ Network Engineer (Contract)

Location: Essen, Ruhr Area (Germany) – with travel across Germany and occasional international travel

Duration: 6 months (extension possible)

Rate: €150/day + all travel expenses (flights & accommodation) covered

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Cisco Catalyst LAN & WLAN Consultant to join a major transformation project. The role focuses on migrating from a WAN to a centrally managed SD-WAN solution, modernizing Cisco Catalyst LAN/WLAN infrastructures, and implementing a cloud-based Unified Communications (UC) platform (PaaS).

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage Cisco-based LAN & WLAN network architectures
• Analyze and evaluate existing legacy configurations
• Develop and document a new Layer 2 design (including IP addressing schemes)
• Migrate branch offices/sites to the new network design
• Configure and manage Layer 2 & 3 protocols (STP, VLANs, OSPF, BGP)
• Implement and maintain TACACS+ & Radius authentication (ideally Cisco ISE)
• Support and troubleshoot wireless networks
• Manage Cisco wireless solutions (IOS-XE controllers, access points)
• Work closely with security, WAN, and other IT teams
• Document configurations, processes, and topologies thoroughly

Your Profile

• Proven hands-on experience with Cisco Catalyst platforms (9000 series)
• Familiarity with Cisco Catalyst Center (DNA Center)
• Strong expertise in Layer 2/3 technologies
• Knowledge of WLAN architecture & security
• Experience with network migrations
• Cisco certifications (e.g., CCNP Enterprise, CCNP Wireless) are desirable
• Knowledge of network security concepts is a plus
• Experience with change management (ITIL)
• Native German speaker with strong English skills
• Valid German work permit
