Senior Java Software Engineer

Senior Java Developer, Lead, Hybrid London, 6+ month contract, GCP

We are looking for a highly skilled GCP Senior Java developer / Tech Lead to join the engineering team of a large finance organisation. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll combine deep technical expertise with mentoring and delivery ownership, helping to shape scalable, high-performance solutions.

This will be Hybrid London 3 days a week and inside IR35.

What You’ll Do

• Own the end-to-end design and build of backend systems using GCP, Java and Spring Boot, aligned with business goals.
• Build scalable microservices and APIs, leveraging GCP (Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions, Cloud Run).
• Guide a team of backend engineers, drive coding best practices, and conduct code reviews.
• Deploy with Kubernetes, optimize CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, etc.), and ensure production reliability.

What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is a must
• Strong programming skills in Java (8/17/21) & Spring Boot
• Deep understanding of microservices and REST APIs
• Skilled with Docker & Kubernetes
• CI/CD experience (Jenkins or similar)
• Strong knowledge of performance, scalability & security best practices
• Excellent communicator with mentoring & leadership experience
