About the Role
We’re working with a client who is looking for a Principal Data Engineer to lead and deliver impactful, modern data solutions from their Perth office. This is a hands-on, hybrid leadership role where you’ll help shape the technical direction of data initiatives across the business and for their clients.
You’ll take ownership of projects end-to-end from planning and proposal development, through to technical execution and delivery. You’ll also provide mentorship and guidance to the team while playing a key role in scaling their data capabilities and setting up the business for future AI-driven growth.
This is a full-time hybrid position (Perth-based, with flexible onsite attendance). You’ll be joining a collaborative, forward-thinking team that values autonomy, innovation, and real-world outcomes.
You Should Have
- Proven experience leading and delivering complex data engineering projects
- A strong background in data or software engineering, with a hands-on coding mindset
- Excellent communication skills and a strong customer or client focus
- Experience mentoring and coaching technical team members
- Confidence working across business functions and influencing technical direction
Nice to Have
- Experience with AWS, Snowflake, or Databricks
- Familiarity with tools like DBT, Terraform, or orchestration frameworks
- Solid knowledge of Python, Java, Golang, or C#
- Understanding of data warehousing, modelling, and custom data product development
- Exposure to AI or machine learning data pipelines
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver data engineering projects from strategy through to production
- Design and build high-quality, scalable data solutions
- Collaborate with internal teams and external clients to shape and deliver outcomes
- Support pre-sales and proposal work with technical insight and planning
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship across the team
- Contribute to the evolution of their data capability, culture, and tech stack
