About The Role

As a Software Engineer on this lean and fast-moving team, you'll be building scalable backend systems that turn slow, manual processes into smart, automated workflows. You'll help reduce repetitive operational work and improve support across enterprise functions like HR, IT, and Security. It's hands-on, impactful work that makes a difference every day.

You'll work closely with internal teams and SaaS platforms, using technologies like Java, Go, Python, and Generative AI (GenAI). Whether you're optimizing a process that used to take hours or building an AI assistant to handle support tickets, your work will directly shape the daily experience of tens of thousands of Uber employees, helping us move faster, stay focused, and get more done with less.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong coding skills in Python, Go, or Java.
  • Proven ability to design, build, and maintain reliable production backend systems and services.
  • Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, webhooks, and event-driven architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure as code.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong coding skills in Python, Go, or Java.
  • Experience automating operational workflows, especially within internal tooling, IT support, or ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira, Okta).
  • Proven track record of delivering enterprise-grade automation that scales to thousands of users.
  • Ability to identify manual operational workflows and independently deliver end-to-end automation solutions.
  • Strong systems thinking and analytical problem-solving skills, with a focus on resolving inefficiencies at scale.
  • Demonstrated independence and initiative in driving projects from discovery through delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clean, testable, and maintainable code.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP), REST APIs, and scripting for systems integration.
  • Hands on with GenAI tools-LangChain, agentic workflows, end-to-end automation, instrumentation/observability of AI agents, and AI-driven problem solving.
  • Experience with observability tooling (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
  • Knowledge of security and compliance requirements, including IAM, SSO, MFA, and data protection.
  • Prior experience at a large-scale tech company or similar environment.

  • Partner with applications, support, and engineering teams to identify high-impact pain points and build software solutions that reduce manual intervention.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code in alignment with engineering best practices.
  • Monitor and improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of automation systems.
  • Continuously enhance systems through instrumentation, monitoring, and feedback-driven iteration.
  • Drive technical projects with a focus on long-term maintainability, scalability, and impact.
  • Leverage innovative technologies-including GenAI and serverless architectures-to solve complex operational challenges.
  • Collaborate within a cross-functional team that fosters diversity of thought, continuous learning, and rapid iteration.
  • Deliver high-impact solutions that reduce manual effort for thousands of Uber employees, boosting productivity and satisfaction.
