Payscale Romania has an employee centric hybrid model that provides you the flexibility to do your best work in a space that supports you, while also finding time to collaborate in person in our office for the moments that matter.

When you work from home, we recommend ensuring that you can meet the following technology, equipment and workspace requirements:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Junior Information Security Engineer to help us protect and monitor our cloud and datacenter hosting environments. In this role, you will work closely with experienced team members to learn, implement, and maintain security controls, monitor for vulnerabilities, and support security best practices. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career who wants to build strong, hands-on experience in security engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in implementing and maintaining security measures for cloud and datacenter environments, including AWS, Azure, and on-premises hosting platforms.
- Work with Infrastructure and DevOps teams to support security for hybrid workloads (virtual machines, containers, and serverless).
- Help configure and maintain cloud-native security tools, firewalls, and WAFs under guidance from senior engineers.
- Support operating system, network, and application hardening efforts following industry best practices such as CIS Benchmarks.
- Participate in vulnerability scanning and monitoring and assist with tracking remediation progress.
- Help manage keys and secrets using tools such as AWS KMS or Azure Key Vault.
- Learn and apply basic scripting skills (Python, PowerShell, Bash) to automate simple security tasks.
- Contribute to documentation and updates of security policies, standards, and procedures.
- Assist in monitoring asset and configuration management tools for security coverage.
- Take part in security incident response activities by providing initial data gathering and documentation.
- Stay curious and up to date on emerging security threats, tools, and practices.
Requirements and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Security, or a related field (or equivalent self-study and hands-on experience).
- 0–2 years of experience in information security, IT, or system administration.
- Basic knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and their security features.
- Familiarity with networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, firewalls, VPNs).
- Awareness of common operating systems (Windows, Linux) and basic security hardening concepts.
- Interest in learning scripting (Python, PowerShell, Bash) to automate tasks.
- Strong willingness to learn and take initiative with guidance.
- Good problem-solving skills and ability to work as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Internship or project experience in IT security or CISO department.
- Familiarity with security frameworks such as CIS, NIST, or ISO 27001.
- Basic understanding of containerization technologies like Docker or Kubernetes.
- Relevant entry-level certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Security Fundamentals, or AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner.
