What it’s like to be a Machine Learning Engineer at STX Next

As a Machine Learning Engineer at STX Next, you’ll be empowered to apply your unique strengths within specific domains like Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, or Recommender Systems. We’re not after experts in everything, but individuals with a deep understanding of machine learning principles who are driven by the ideas shaping the field. Here, theory meets practice as you’ll not only design models but also implement them as APIs and integrate them seamlessly into client systems.

Responsibilities

• Work on international projects with a diverse team
• Identifying research goals and conducting literature reviews.
• Formulating hypotheses and collecting data.
• Conducting data analysis, experimentation, and testing.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate machine learning models into production environments.
  
  

Requirements

Core Machine Learning knowledge

• Understanding of key machine learning problem types (e.g., classification, regression, clustering).
• Familiarity with common evaluation metrics (e.g., precision, recall, F1, IoU, ROUGE).
• Experience with popular models and algorithms (e.g., random forests, SVMs, XGBoost, ensemble methods).
• Knowledge of dimensionality reduction techniques (e.g., PCA, t-SNE, UMAP).
• Proficiency in data preparation and visualization libraries (e.g., pandas, matplotlib).
• Familiarity with current neural network architectures (e.g., RNNs, CNNs, Transformers) and methods (e.g., transfer learning).
  
  

Technical Skills

• Documented experience with at least one major machine learning library (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).
• Strong understanding of relational databases and hands-on experience with one of the following: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS SQL, or Oracle.
• Proficiency in Python, the primary language used in our ML projects.
  
  

Soft skills

• Excellent communication skills in English (minimum B2).
• A proactive attitude towards problem-solving and analytical thinking.
