Senior Java Developer
Location: Manchester
Salary: £57,000 – £64,000 per annum
Contract: Full-time
About the Role
Our client is seeking experienced Senior Java Developers to join their growing team. As a Senior Developer, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining user-centred digital solutions. Acting as a subject matter expert, you will provide technical leadership within multi-disciplinary teams, ensure delivery of high-quality solutions, and contribute to the professional development of colleagues.
This position is suited to candidates who are seeking progression at the senior level, with opportunities for future growth and advancement.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a technical SME, ensuring user-centred software is developed in line with business requirements and industry best practice.
- Collaborate with colleagues to design, develop, and deliver innovative solutions to client challenges.
- Oversee software development and deployment pipelines, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
- Present solutions, prototypes, and progress to stakeholders in a clear and professional manner.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
- Contribute to recruitment activities and mentor other consultants in their career development.
- Promote the organisation’s engineering expertise externally through writing, speaking, and thought leadership.
Candidate Profile
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong communication skills with the ability to adapt for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience across the full software development lifecycle delivering user-centred digital solutions.
- Proficiency in Java (including frameworks such as Spring Boot, CXF, Jetty).
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and templating (e.g. Mustache).
- Experience in designing microservices architectures and building RESTful APIs.
- Familiarity with agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, TDD).
- Experience with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes or equivalent).
- Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) and Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation, Terraform, ARM).
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, AWS CodeBuild, Azure DevOps, or Atlassian.
- Skilled in designing and building both native and web applications across a range of platforms.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with Kotlin.
- JavaScript frameworks (React, Angular, Node.js).
- Previous experience working on government or NHS projects.
