About the Role

This is a 12-month contract opportunity for a skilled backend engineer to join a high-impact team focused on building and maintaining payment systems. You’ll be working on transaction processing, authorisation, settlement, and reconciliation, while integrating with external payment providers, gateways, banks, and fintech partners. The role involves contributing to cloud-native, microservices-based modernisation efforts and ensuring compliance with industry standards such as PCI-DSS, PSD2, and ISO 20022. You’ll collaborate closely with product managers, architects, and engineers to deliver robust, scalable solutions in a fast-paced environment. The position offers a competitive rate of and requires availability to start ASAP (candidates with notice periods longer than 30 days may not be feasible).

The Successful Candidate

You’ll bring 3–6 years of professional software engineering experience, with hands-on exposure to the payments domain—whether in card payments, BNPL, merchant acquiring, or payment gateways.

Proficiency in backend languages such as Java, Kotlin, C#, Python, or Go is essential, along with experience in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes), and event-driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ). Familiarity with REST/GraphQL APIs, data security, and compliance in financial systems is expected.

Bonus points for experience in fraud detection, AI/ML-based transaction monitoring, and DevOps practices. You’re a passionate, diligent, and collaborative professional with excellent communication skills and a drive to deliver high-quality solutions.
