A data scientist in Responsible AI team will be dedicated to reviewing and consulting with the business and IT development teams to help ensure that AI systems are fair, transparent, accountable, and aligned with ethical principles. In this role, you will work at the intersection of AI, ML, ethics, and policy to develop and implement tools, frameworks, and methodologies that assess and mitigate risks associated with AI usage at Chevron. You will collaborate closely with our Cyber, Legal and Data Privacy teams to ensure that AI solutions, vendors and internal consumers adhere to Chevron guidelines and policies.

In this role, you will work at the intersection of AI, ML, ethics, and policy to develop and implement tools, frameworks, and methodologies that assess and mitigate risks associated with AI usage at Chevron. You will collaborate closely with our Cyber, Legal and Data Privacy teams to ensure that AI solutions, vendors and internal consumers adhere to Chevron guidelines and policies.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
- Apply frameworks to assess fairness, transparency, and accountability in AI systems, vendors and use cases.
- Collaborate with Cybersecurity, Legal, and Data Privacy to develop and maintain Chevron’s AI governance policies and controls.
- Conduct ethical risk assessments and impact analyses for AI use cases, including alignment with regulations such as the EU AI Act.
- Influence the development and adoption of tools and methodologies to detect and mitigate bias, drift, and unintended consequences in machine learning models.
- Assist in AI Discovery and maintain an inventory of AI models across the enterprise and ensure proper documentation and lifecycle governance.
- Lead training and awareness campaigns to promote ethical AI practices across business units.
- Contribute to the design and enforcement of governance metrics and assurance processes for AI systems.
- Define and report key AI Governance KPIs to senior leaders in the data organization
- Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate Responsible AI principles into product development and deployment workflows.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in data science, analytics, or AI roles.
- Demonstrated ability to reason through ethical implications of AI systems and articulate trade-offs.
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams (e.g., legal, policy, UX) to embed Responsible AI principles.
- Strong communication and presentation skills to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Familiarity with data governance frameworks and enterprise compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
- Master’s degree in Data Science or Cybersecurity
- Certifications in Responsible AI, Data/AI Ethics, Cybersecurity or AI Governance.
- Experience developing and evaluating machine learning models using Python and libraries such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
- Experience with generative AI or agentic AI frameworks, tools, or applications.
- Knowledge of fairness, interpretability, and robustness techniques in AI.
- Experience with enterprise AI platforms (e.g., Azure ML, Databricks, DataRobot).
- Proven ability to work autonomously in ambiguous environments and make connections between disparate data sources.
