Atomionics is developing quantum sensors using cold atom interferometry, where atoms are cooled to nearly absolute zero using lasers. At such extreme temperatures, these atoms behave like waves, enabling precise measurement of forces acting on them. This technology has vast potential applications, including advancing the zero-carbon energy transition, enhancing the performance of inertial navigation systems, and revolutionizing the global positioning system. At Atomionics, you will have the opportunity to design, prototype, test, refine and manufacture Quantum Gravity Sensors. You will develop solutions to improve the performance of our sensor, while also making it compact and robust for field deployment on projects around the world. Job scope

The opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Robotics Engineer to play a pivotal role in the design, development, integration, and testing of our quantum gravimeters. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of aerospace engineering, quantum physics, advanced robotics and hardware-software integration.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualisation and design of mechanisms and mechanical movements for robotics platform for dynamic tilt control, vibration isolation and optical alignment systems.
• Mechanical subsystem design that integrates: electronics, mechatronics, thermal systems, laser optics & vacuum technologies.
• Preparation of 3D CAD, 2D drawings and assembly instructions.
• Hands-on assembly of precision parts, electro-mechanical actuators, and optical components.
• Working with sensors and their communication protocols like I2C, SPI, UART and CAN Bus
• Doing signal processing using hardware as well as digital filters.
• Writing program/software for data acquisition and implementing control theory.

About you

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Skilled in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Inventor).
• Proficient knowledge in Robotics (Mechanical) such as Degrees of freedom, types of linkages, kinematics, gears, thread pitch, levers, backlash etc.
• Experience with micro-controllers, sensors, actuators, stepper motors, motor drivers and
• encoders.
• Strong foundation of communication protocols, signal & systems, control theory, PID,
• dynamics and feedback loops.
• Proficiency in Python, C++, or MATLAB or embedded C.
• Strong hands-on assembly and troubleshooting abilities.

Even better if you have

• Experience with optics and thermal design.
• Experience in designing simple PCBs & cable harnesses
• Been through a full product development cycle for a device with a complex system.
• Good knowledge of analog electronics.
• Good knowledge of mechanical vibrations and classical mechanics.
• Good knowledge of sensor fusion algorithms like kalman filters etc.
