The Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics. SciLifeLab (SciLifeLab) is a national center for molecular biosciences with focus on health and environmental research. The center combines frontline technical expertise with advanced knowledge of translational medicine and molecular bioscience. SciLifeLab is a national resource hosted by Karolinska Institutet, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm University and Uppsala University. The center also collaborates with several other universities.

NGI is the largest technical platform in SciLifeLab. It is a national resource that offers an infrastructure for state-of-the-art DNA sequencing and SNP genotyping to researchers across Sweden. By providing access to advanced genomics techniques and providing guidelines and support for sampling, study design, protocol selection and bioinformatics analysis, we hope to enable world-leading research. Main responsibilities

We are looking for a bioinformatician to join our developers team at NGI, located at SciLifeLab in Solna. The teams’ work is structured within three areas: Data flow, Analysis and Systems development. The chosen candidate will get a varied role and will participate in different tasks within these areas. The possible tasks include to:

  • Deliver data to researchers
  • Review sequencing data and investigate issues detected
  • Analyse data from internal development
  • Develop analysis pipelines
  • Construct web applications
  • Software development, for example for quality control of data
  • Automation of data and analysis flow
  • Make sure analysis pipelines and tools are “state-of-the-art”.

Qualification requirements

Required

  • Academic degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biotechnology or similar.
  • Programming experience, preferably using Python or Javascript.
  • Basic knowledge of version control, e.g git.
  • Experience of Linux/UNIX-terminal.
  • Excellent communication- and collaboration skills.
  • You speak and write English fluently.

Meriting

  • Experience of HPC or corresponding computer systems.
  • Experience in molecular biology.
  • Experience in handling large data, in particular next generation sequencing (NGS) data.
  • Experience in bioinformatics or corresponding competence.
  • Experience in web-application development and / or database administration (SQL or noSQL).
  • Experience in VueJS.

You should appreciate working as part of a team and in a structured and quality-aware way. We value good communication skills, both spoken and written. About The Employment

This is a full-time, indefinite-term employment with a six-month probationary period. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting. Start date as agreement.
