DevOps Manager

The Opportunity

Our client, a leading international organisation in the transport and technology sector, is seeking a highly skilled Senior DevOps Leader to join a cutting-edge Traffic Management System (TMS) programme in Oslo. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for an experienced DevOps engineer with strong automation expertise, proven team leadership experience, and the drive to build high-performing operations teams.

This position offers the chance to play a pivotal role in a mission-critical programme, driving innovation in deployment, monitoring, and system resilience within a safety-critical environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead DevOps initiatives across the TMS programme, managing the full lifecycle from requirements and design through to prototyping, implementation, documentation, and production rollout.
• Take ownership of one or more core DevOps domains (e.g. monitoring, proactive/reactive system fixes, intrusion detection integration, deployment industrialisation).
• Build deep technical expertise within the project, acting as a go-to leader for your specialist area.
• Mentor, train, and support the recruitment of engineers within the operations team, fostering a culture of excellence.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and end customers to ensure smooth integration, deployment, and operational support.
• Drive best practices in automation, IT security, and Agile/SCRUM ways of working.

Required Background

• University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent professional experience).
• Strong technical expertise in Kubernetes, Helm charts, Ansible scripting, and Terraform automation.
• Solid background in IT security principles.
• Strong Linux and bash scripting knowledge.
• Experience leading small engineering or development teams in Agile/SCRUM environments.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to motivate teams and liaise confidently with customers.
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
• Applicants will ideally be based in Norway already.

Desirable Skills

• IT solution architecture experience.
• Networking and VMware expertise.
• Azure cloud experience.
• Java and Python development exposure.
• Familiarity with JIRA and Confluence/Wiki tools.
• Previous experience in the railway sector, ideally with ERTMS and TMS.
