A Doctoral researcher

in Industrial Engineering and Management, Faculty of Technology.

About Us

The Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM) subject combines engineering and technology, business economics methods, and human factors. IEM is unique in its multidisciplinary approach and its integrative nature that provides value and enhances efficiency and effectiveness in organisations. The IEM research focuses specifically on the following areas: operations and supply chain management, project business, product management, well-being at work, and productivity. The IEM is a research unit within the Faculty of Technology. The IEM research unit conducts relevant research in its field, provides teaching, and influences society.

About The Job

As a doctoral researcher, you will work on two projects involving manufacturing, digitalisation, and artificial intelligence: SIX ManuGenius and 4SiM. Your work will also include project management and communication tasks related to these projects.

SIX ManuGenius is a national Innovation and Competence Networks project studying the role of Generative AI (GenAI) in the manufacturing industry, particularly supporting small and medium enterprises in its successful adoption. Your research focuses on analyzing the current state and needs of companies, particularly regarding IEM topics such as quality management, training, and human resource management. More detailed application areas will be defined in collaboration with the project stakeholders.

4SiM is an Erasmus+ funded international consortium project. It aims to create a novel and scalable sociotechnical simulation environment for the manufacturing industry and a related learning platform. The simulation environment supports the creation of a competent future workforce, particularly considering Lean Production, safety, and HSEQ aspects. The project and your research work focus on defining requirements, developing, and implementing this simulation.

Who are you?

What we expect from you:

  • You hold a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Management.
  • You are interested in artificial intelligence and digitalization, and your previous education or other experience supports GenAI development work.
  • You have good English skills. Good Finnish language skills are also considered an advantage, as the SIX ManuGenius project focuses on working with Finnish companies and stakeholders.
  • You are well-equipped to work in national and international project environments.


Salary

The position is fixed-term for three years. The start date is 1.10.2025 or as agreed. The salary will be based on levels OV02-OV04 of the demand level chart for teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). The gross salary will be approx. 2700-3000 € per month (before taxes).
