Data Scientist

About Reyedar B.V.

We’re a medtech startup building preventive diagnostic tools to detect ophthalmic and neurodegenerative disorders. Our products combine eye-tracking with rigorous analytics, designed around patients, for patients. If you want your work to be meaningful and have a direct, positive impact on people’s lives, you’ll fit right in.

About the position

We’re looking for a Data Scientist to turn eye-tracking signals into clinically meaningful biomarkers. You’ll work alongside another Data Scientist and co-own the end-to-end analysis pipeline from raw gaze and pupil streams to robust features and interpretable models to screen for ophthalmic and neurodegenerative conditions. Key focus will be on developing and validating new visual tests (stimuli, tasks, scoring). You’ll work side-by-side with clinicians and engineers, see your analyses used on real patients, and help shape a medical device that delivers non-invasive, early insights.

What you’ll do

  • A major focus of your role will be designing and validating new visual tests (stimuli, tasks, and scoring) that deliver non-invasive, early insights in clinic-like and near-real-time settings.
  • Collaborate with clinical partners to design test protocols and translate outputs into clinician- and patient-friendly reports.
  • Develop and maintain signal-processing and feature-extraction methods for saccades, fixations, smooth pursuit, blink/pupil dynamics, and gaze stability.
  • Build, validate, and calibrate classical ML models (e.g., linear and tree-based methods) with a strong focus on interpretability, uncertainty estimation, and clinical relevance.
  • Design quality-control and artifact handling for calibration drift, head motion, and noise; benchmark robustness across devices and sessions.
  • Operate reproducible pipelines (data versioning, evaluation plans, documentation) and run analyses on multi-site clinical datasets.
  • Contribute to on-device/near-real-time analytics and integration with eye-tracking hardware.
  • Prepare clear analysis summaries and documentation suitable for clinical and regulatory contexts.

What we are looking for

  • A degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Biomedical Engineering, or an equivalent field.
  • Ability to work both independently and within interdisciplinary teams.
  • 2 years of professional experience; exceptional candidates welcome regardless of tenure.
  • Fluency in English.

Required skills

  • Strong programming skills with Python.
  • Data analysis and visualization (pandas, matplotlib, etc.).
  • Solid grasp of classical machine learning and scientific computing (scikit-learn, SciPy, etc.).
  • Proven ability to turn analyses into reliable, usable outputs (e.g., reports, packages, or internal tools).

Appreciated skills

  • Background or interest in medical applications or research, especially vision science.
  • Signal processing and/or time-series analysis.
  • Experimental design, statistics, and model interpretability.
  • Experience with AWS cloud services.
  • DevOps/MLOps.

What you can expect from us

  • Meaningful, challenging projects with real patient impact.
  • Flexible working hours and a supportive, friendly, people-first culture.
  • Hybrid working: Some on-site work in the office is required to utilize specialized hardware (e.g., eye trackers).
  • Our office is in Groningen, a young, bike-friendly, and great place for a people-centered lifestyle.

How the application works

  • Send your CV and cover letter to [email protected].
  • If selected, we’ll invite you for an online or in-person interview (depending on location).
  • N.B. = We can only consider applicants who already have the right to work in the Netherlands without employer sponsorship.
