We’re looking for a passionate Front-End React engineer, to work within the Public Markets Technology team.

We’re after a adaptable Front-End React engineer who is motivated to combine the art of design with the art of programming, taking an active role defining how the application looks as well as how it works.

We moved into our new HQ in the City of London in 2018. We’re close to our clients, in the heart of the UK’s financial centre. And we have everything we need to work flexibly.

The team

Public Markets Technology provides tooling, applications, and a platform to support the many investment desks at Schroders. We're re-architecting our technology stack to becloud native on AWS with front ends built in React and Python for all backend services and libraries.

We aim to maintain a great engineering culture. Contributing to this culture will involve following good software craftmanship, TDD and writing clean code. Our systems must be well architected, designed for testability and extensibility.

To achieve this, we implement mentoring and coaching through regular code reviews and pair programming.

You'll work with a team of enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about software in a financial context and evolving our investment platform.

They're also keen on driving positive technology change at Schroders, ensuring that we always stay ahead of the curve.

What You’ll Do

Build multifaceted frontends and UI components that balance data density, usability and platform scaling.

Produce high quality testable software.

Deliver and refine investment and research platform in response to business needs.

Work with Product, UX and business users to deliver change

The Knowledge, Experience And Qualifications You Need

• Minimum 3 years React/Typescript software development experience in an enterprise environment
• Knowledge and experience in building front-end Single Page Applications with React, Apollo Client, Redux and Typescript.
• Knowledge and experience of common React libraries, patterns and principles.
• Knowledge and experience of data fetching (REST or GraphQL) and streaming (WebSockets and HTTP chunked responses).
• Experience with various state management approaches (hooks, context, redux, apollo..)
• Knowledge and experience of Javascript
• Awareness of common front-end styling paradigms (eg: css modules, css in js).
• Knowledge of general front-end tooling (particularly Nodejs, npm and browser dev tools).
• Knowledge and experience of structuring and writing unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
  
  

The Knowledge, Experience And Qualifications That Will Help

• Knowledge of common challenges in front-end development (eg: browser behaviour and limitations, front-end application optimisations, etc).
• Experience with performance optimisation techniques
• Experience with interactive data visualisation
• Experience with Playwright
• Experience with Material UI or similar component libraries
• Knowledge and experience of the Investment Management industry
• Knowledge and experience with GitHub + Actions
• Knowledge and experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Azure cloud solutions
