The European Investment Fund (EIF) is seeking to recruit for its Social Impact Unit, at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a Trainee.

Duration: 5 months & Starting date: October 2025

Specific Post Environment

The Social Impact Unit is part of the Green Tech & Social Impact Division of the Equity Investments department, within the Investment Office.

Amongst other activities, the Social Impact unit is in charge of (i) sourcing, screening and executing investments in European social and environmental impact funds; (ii) monitoring the impact equity portfolio of the EIF and related monitoring duties for EIF stakeholders and (iii) ensuring relevant market intelligence tasks in the specific social impact market segment in Europe.

Overall Objective

Your overall objective will be to:

  • Contribute to the development of a market mapping and intelligence tool for the European social and environmental impact ecosystem;
  • Improve the EIF’s strategic data on social and environmental impact;
  • Improve reporting and analytics of impact data conveyed by funds and portfolio companies, including developing new ideas for impact computation and presentation.

Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the senior of the team, you shall:

  • Review and consolidate all social and environmental impact data within the GT&SI equity portfolio based on the internal management information system and tools;
  • Perform research and benchmarking analysis on key performance and impact metrics of the GT&SI portfolio;
  • Leverage existing impact KPI data across the EIF fund portfolio to generate insights on key areas of impact creation, categorisation of KPIs, consistency across similar strategies, and materiality of indicators;
  • Liaise where required with internal IT teams (eFront, Tableau, Business Objects) to build on the efforts already undertaken to improve impact data analytics;
  • Gather market intelligence on the European social and environment impact ecosystem and support the mapping of the market, with a focus on under-served thematics, and under-served markets;
  • Contribute to the development of a benchmarking and analytical tool to improve EIF’s understanding of the European impact ecosystem;
  • Support the elaboration of communication materials and impact case studies providing visibility to EIF’s activities and investments in the impact market;
  • Assist EI colleagues in the preparation and drafting of impact related reports, as needed.

Expected Outcome

  • Delivery of an improved and consolidated set of strategic social and environmental impact data;
  • Creation of enhanced impact data analytics and reporting frameworks;
  • Development of a market intelligence tool and mapping of the European social and Environment Impact ecosystem.

Qualifications

  • University degree (or on-going studies at an advanced stage) in economics, finance or other relevant social sciences degrees. University degree in IT, statistics or econometrics combined with a strong drive for impact investing may be considered.
  • Strong analytical, drafting and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft application tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. Good command of another EU language would be an advantage.
