At SINTEF Digital, we develop cutting-edge methods and technologies that enable trustworthy and sustainable digital solutions. As software systems become increasingly central to industry, smart cities, and society at large, we focus on ensuring that these systems are reliable, secure, and capable of supporting the green transition.

The Trustworthy Green IoT Software (GIoT) research group advances tools and methodologies for creating intelligent, trustworthy (secure, privacy-preserving, and safe), and sustainable software systems that operate seamlessly across the IoT–edge–cloud continuum. We are a highly international community, working with Norwegian and European partners across diverse domains including manufacturing, energy, health, maritime, and agrifood.

The GIoT group currently consists of 11 researchers. With strong and growing demand for our expertise, we are seeking ambitious Research Scientists (MSc, PhD, or Postdoc level) to join one of Europe’s leading research teams in software engineering and AI.

Your Responsibilities

At SINTEF, we deliver projects in close collaboration with industry and the public sector. Our researchers take pride in creating high-quality results with real-world impact, while actively disseminating findings to the academic community and society at large.

In This Position, You Will

• Get hands-on with data pipelines, multi-agent AI, and workflows that span edge, fog, and cloud computing
• Bring your ideas to life by prototyping solutions and demonstrating them in real industrial and societal applications
• Validate your solutions through rigorous experimentation
• Publish in leading conferences and journals, and openly share your code with the research community
• Depending on experience, contribute to project management, proposal writing, and research leadership
  
  

Who Are You

• You are an early-career or mid-career researcher with an MSc, PhD, or Postdoc in computer science, data science, artificial intelligence, or a closely related field
• You have strong hands-on and AI-enabled coding and prototyping skills, with the ability to produce high-quality, performant software
• You are passionate about validating your ideas through rigorous experimentation, benchmarking against state-of-the-art approaches, and demonstrating scientific impact.
• You enjoy tackling complex challenges and turning creative ideas into practical results
• You are a team player with strong communication skills, comfortable collaborating with both colleagues and external partners
• You have strong communication skills in English (proficiency in Scandinavian languages is an advantage but not compulsory)
  
  

You have a strong interest in one or more of the following:

• Software engineering for AI
• AI for software engineering
• AI engineering for the computing continuum (cloud, edge, fog)
• Multiagent AI
• Trustworthiness and sustainability of AI
  
  

Ideally, you have experience in collaborative research projects and may feel ready to take on responsibility as a project manager. Bonus: You bring an interdisciplinary perspective (e.g. from arts, philosophy, physics, neuroscience, law, or related areas) that can enrich our approaches to AI trustworthiness and sustainability

The position is based at SINTEF in Oslo, Norway, and requires willingness to reside here.
