Your Role And Responsibilities

We are seeking a talented and innovative Data Scientist to join Motion High Power R&D and Analytics development team at ABB, Pitäjänmäki, Helsinki.

The team’s mission is to develop value-added solutions and features that help our customers achieve maximum availability and optimal performance from ABB's variable speed drives. As a Data Scientist, you will collaborate closely with drive experts, software developers, and fellow data scientists — working in a multidisciplinary environment where learning across domains is encouraged. The team uses state-of-the-art technologies and follows the latest developments in relevant fields.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ABB’s success with technology, software, product, and system development. Each day, you will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team.

The work model for the role is: hybrid

Key responsibilities:

  • Developing methods to transform data from variable speed drives into clear, actionable indicators and insights that explain condition and performance
  • Designing and implementing advanced algorithms and models to embedded and edge devices
  • Maintaining and enhancing our data pipelines and data management processes
  • Coaching and mentoring the team to enable data driven development and usage of modern data science tools and methods

Qualifications for the role:

  • M.Sc. degree or higher in data science, software engineering or a related field is required
  • Strong understanding of machine learning methods and tools, with practical experience is essential
  • Proficiency in software development, with familiarity in development tools such as GIT and Azure DevOps is essential. Capable of programming with Python and C++
  • Knowledge of variable speed drive technology and its applications is an advantage
  • Collaborative nature and excellent teamwork skills
  • You are fluent in written and spoken English
