Product Engineering is a unified team responsible for the engineering of Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms. This includes product engineering, media engineering, quality assurance, engineering behind personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity.

Job Summary

As a member of the News & Entertainment Content Distribution team, you will build and support the tools, services and distribution APIs that deliver content to our products, including NationalGeographic.com, Marvel.com and the highly rated Marvel Unlimited digital comics app. We are looking for a passionate, impactful technologist who seeks to bring the best out in themselves and those around them—someone who can provide a fresh perspective and innovative insight to our initiatives.

You will be a great fit for our team if you enjoy collaborating with product managers, frontend engineers, and fellow backend engineers to design and implement high-throughput experiences. Responsibilities


  • Participate in requirements gathering, analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of systems that support or enhance other applications within the environment
  • Collaborate with the team to analyze and resolve complex engineering challenges involving high-traffic web application services and APIs, including participation in on-call rotation
  • Contribute ideas to improve the scalability, resilience, and reliability of the data platform, and work across the team to bring those ideas to life
  • Continuously research and learn new technologies to stay current and enhance system capabilities


Basic Qualifications


  • BS in Computer Science or related technical discipline and 3+ years relevant industry experience or 9+ years equivalent engineering experience without a BS degree in a technical field
  • Proficient in Java and familiar with open-source technologies such as Spring, Tomcat, MySQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, GraphQL, and others
  • Exposure to the full application development lifecycle, including best practices for unit testing, code reviews, and documentation
  • Self-motivated and adaptable, with a strong willingness to learn new technologies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with solid debugging and troubleshooting capabilities
  • Effective communication skills and keen attention to detail


Preferred Qualifications


  • Familiarity with cloud-based technologies such as AWS EC2, ECS, SQS, S3, Lambda, DynamoDB, and related services
  • Experience working with content management systems and content syndication
  • Demonstrated ability to build scalable systems that are high-volume, cached, fault-tolerant, and multi-threaded


The hiring range for this position in Los Angeles is $114,900 to $154,100 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
