Job purpose:


The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting the group’s enterprise network infrastructure. This job ensures high availability, security, scalability, and performance of all network systems across data centers, offices, and remote locations. The Network Engineer collaborates with cross-functional IT teams, vendors, and business units to deliver reliable network services, troubleshoot issues, and implement enhancements aligned with business and security requirements.


Responsibilities


Network Design & Architecture


•Design, configure, and deploy enterprise-level network solutions, including LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, and SD-WAN infrastructures.

•Develop detailed technical designs, diagrams, and documentation for network solutions.

•Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to enhance scalability, security, and performance.


Network Implementation & Configuration


•Install, configure, and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, wireless controllers, and access points.

•Implement VLANs, QoS, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), and network segmentation as required.

•Deploy and maintain secure remote connectivity solutions (VPN, Zero Trust frameworks).

Network Operations & Monitoring

•Proactively monitor network performance, availability, and capacity using tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios, or similar.

•Perform root cause analysis for network outages, degradations, and security incidents.

•Ensure timely resolution of Level 2 and 3 support tickets escalated from IT service desk teams.


Security & Compliance


•Configure and manage firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and endpoint protection solutions.

•Implement network security policies in line with ISO/IEC 27001, NIST, and organizational standards.

•Regularly conduct vulnerability assessments and participate in penetration testing exercises.

•Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry requirements (GDPR, PCI DSS, SCA, etc. where applicable).


Documentation & Governance


•Maintain up-to-date documentation of network configurations, topology diagrams, and change management records.

•Support IT governance by adhering to change control, incident management, and problem management frameworks.

•Create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and knowledge base articles for IT support staff.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

•Liaise with vendors, service providers, and consultants for procurement, maintenance, and technical support.

•Manage network service-level agreements (SLAs) to ensure quality of service delivery.

•Collaborate with application, server, and cybersecurity teams to align network services with business requirements.

Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery

•Participate in the design and execution of disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity plans.

•Ensure high availability through redundancy, clustering, and failover mechanisms.

•Regularly test backup and recovery procedures for network devices and services.

General

•Uphold company values throughout business practices and utilise sound judgment in decision making.

•Any other additional duties as may be required by management based on needs of the business.


Qualifications


•Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related area

•Professional certifications preferred: CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CompTIA Network+, Fortinet NSE, or equivalent.

•A minimum of 3-5 years of proven experience in network engineering, preferably in a complex, multi-site enterprise environment.

•Strong hands-on expertise in Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto, or equivalent network devices.

•Demonstrated experience in implementing and troubleshooting routing, switching, wireless, and security solutions.
