Frontend Developer 8 to 10 Months Contract

About The Role

We're looking for an advanced JavaScript Frontend Developer to build accessible, high-quality web applications used in public and social domains. You'll work with React and Next.js in a headless architecture, ensuring performance, security, and WCAG 2.1 compliance (DigiToegankelijk, levels A and AA).

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain complex front-end features using React (component-based architecture) and Next.js (SSR/SSG, routing, performance optimizations).
  • Implement accessible interfaces that meet WCAG 2.1 (DigiToegankelijk A & AA), including testing and documentation.
  • Integrate front ends with headless services via REST/standard APIs; collaborate closely with back-end and design.
  • Apply NL Design System components; extend and contribute patterns when needed.
  • Champion performance, security, and quality (code reviews, testing, linting, CI).
  • Work within multidisciplinary teams (product, design, QA) in an Agile/SAFe environment.
  • Proactively identify UX, accessibility, and technical improvements; drive solutions end-to-end.

Must-have qualifications

  • 4+ years professional experience as a Frontend Developer.
  • 2+ years building complex applications with React and Next.js.
  • Advanced JavaScript (ES6+) skills; solid TypeScript is a plus.
  • Proven delivery of WCAG 2.1 compliant solutions (DigiToegankelijk A & AA), including practical knowledge of semantic HTML, ARIA, keyboard navigation, focus management, and color contrast.
  • Experience in public or social sector projects (e.g., government, municipalities, healthcare, social services).
  • Headless architecture integrations via REST/other standard APIs.
  • Working knowledge of web application security guidelines (e.g., OWASP Top 10, secure auth/session handling).
  • Hands-on with modern tooling: package managers, bundlers, testing frameworks, and Git.
  • Own development laptop with password protection, full-disk encryption, up-to-date anti-virus software, and stable internet connection suitable for professional work.

Nice to have (Wishes)

  • Experience with CI/CD (e.g., GitLab CI).
  • Multi-channel solutions (shared code/integration for web and mobile).
  • SAFe-Agile certifications (or willingness to obtain shortly).
  • Strong stakeholder communication; can work independently and navigate the organization with minimal guidance.
