EIB Trainee – Projects Directorate – Sustainability & Quality Management Department – Environment, Climate & Social Office Division – Climate Policy Unit – based in Luxembourg

The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Projects Directorate (PJ) - Sustainability & Quality Management Department (SQM) - Environment, Climate & Social Office Division (ECSO) - Climate Policy Unit (CP), at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st March/April 2025)

Please note that you are requested to limit your applications to a maximum of three traineeship publications. We will only consider and retain the first three applications submitted.

Objective of the traineeship

The Climate Bank Roadmap (CBR) 2021-2025 is being reviewed for the next cycle (2026 to 2030) and will be updated in the course of 2025. This will require input on various topics related to the CBR taking into consideration EU policies.

Depending on background and interest, you will contribute to provide solid material to help shape ongoing or future work streams for the next iteration of the CBR.

Potential relevant themes include: new developments in EU climate and environmental policy; the development of (voluntary) carbon and nature markets; assessment of sustainability reporting on Paris alignment (in relation to the EIB PATH framework); review and assessment of emerging international frameworks to boost adaptation and resilience (relating to the EIB Adaptation Plan); preparatory work for Bank reporting on climate and sustainability in relation to the EU sustainable finance disclosure agenda. You will focus on several such topics during the traineeship.

Responsibilities

In the chosen topic, you will work alongside specialists in the Environment, Climate and Social Office and your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Analyze relevant background material, including EU and international policy and comparison with positions of other public banks and Multilateral Development Banks.
  • Assess relevance for the EIB in the context of the Climate Bank Roadmap.
  • Prepare and propose clear suggestions for EIB to consider as part of the review of the Climate Bank Roadmap.

Academic Qualifications And Professional Skills

  • Candidate of PhD in Environmental Science, Economics, Engineering or any other relevant discipline with a preferred focus on climate change science and environmental protection;
  • Excellent data analysis skills
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office software (i.e.Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.
