We are in need of a talented UI Designer for a 6-month assignment. The ideal candidate should have experience in establishing a digital design system, possess a good understanding of front-end development, and expertise in digital accessibility. The UI Designer will work closely with designers, developers, and product owners to ensure consistent, accessible, and cohesive design solutions.

Responsibilities

Design System Development and Maintenance

  • Enhance, update, and refine the design system to ensure scalability, accessibility, and visual consistency across platforms within the project timeframe.
  • Collaborate with UX and UI designers, product owners, and developers to define and document visual standards, focusing on accessibility and usability.
  • Create comprehensive guidelines for patterns, components, and interactions to ensure easy adoption by teams.

UI Design and Visual Craftsmanship

  • Create visually engaging interfaces for web and mobile applications that align with user needs and accessibility standards.
  • Apply principles of visual hierarchy, typography, and color theory to produce high-quality design solutions.
  • Develop mobile-first responsive layouts to enhance usability and provide a clear user journey.

Digital Accessibility Compliance

  • Ensure all design work adheres to WCAG standards and the EU Directive on Accessibility of Websites and Mobile Applications.
  • Conduct accessibility reviews and make adjustments to improve usability for people with disabilities, including considerations for screen readers, keyboard navigation, color contrast, and responsive design.
  • Act as a resource for the team on accessible design practices and contribute to creating a more inclusive digital experience.

Collaboration with Front-end Development

  • Partner with front-end developers to ensure accurate and accessible implementation of designs, providing guidance on design standards and assets.
  • Utilize understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create feasible designs within development constraints and accessibility requirements.
  • Participate in testing and iteration cycles to optimize the user experience and accessibility across various devices and platforms.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a UI designer with a portfolio showcasing design systems and accessible, user-centered designs.
  • Proficiency in Figma, our design tool.
  • Solid understanding of design systems and their application across multiple platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of WCAG standards and accessibility best practices, with a working understanding of the EU Directive on Accessibility of Websites and Mobile Applications.
  • Familiarity with front-end development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and the ability to work closely with developers.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in in agile development environments.
  • Knowledge of responsive and adaptive design principles.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills and a passion for creating accessible, beautiful, and functional designs.
