Mid-Level Backend Developer (Java & Node.js/TypeScript)

London (Hybrid – 2 days in office, Canary Wharf)

The Opportunity

We are working with a leading global financial services organisation who are seeking a Mid-Level Backend Developer to join their technology team on a 6-month contract. This is a hands-on role where you’ll play a key part in refactoring existing services and building robust, scalable backend solutions.

You’ll be joining a collaborative environment, working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software, while also tackling technical debt and aligning infrastructure with the organisation’s long-term strategy.

Key Responsibilities

• Refactor existing Node.js codebase into Java to align with infrastructure strategy.
• Maintain and enhance existing scalable backend applications (Java, Node.js, TypeScript).
• Work with containerisation tools including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
• Design and maintain robust GraphQL APIs.
• Write and maintain comprehensive unit and integration tests.
• Monitor system performance and manage deployments.
• Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and engineering teams to deliver new features.

Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of experience developing backend systems.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java and Node.js/TypeScript.
• Solid knowledge of Azure cloud services.
• Proficiency in GraphQL API design.
• Practical experience with Docker & Kubernetes.
• Strong knowledge of SQL
