Backend Tech Lead

Our client is a fast growing regional fintech player building an innovative consumer and SMB financial platform. They have raised a significant amount of funding from top tier investors to fuel their expansion and looking to hire Backend Tech Lead.

As a Backend Tech Lead you will:

• Foster a high-performance culture by mentoring engineers, promoting best practices, and creating an environment where engineers can thrive and grow.
• Establish and maintain engineering standards, including code quality, testing practices, and documentation requirements.
• Manage sprint planning, technical debt, and resource allocation across backend projects.
• Implement and track engineering productivity metrics, including DORA metrics, to drive improvements in deployment frequency, lead time, stability, and recovery.
• Collaborate with world-class product, design, operations, and engineering teams to identify impactful features and lead the team in implementing them end-to-end from design, to development, to polish, to delivery, to monitoring and measuring progress.
• Drive technical decision-making and architecture discussions, ensuring alignment with business goals and engineering best practices.

Key skills and characteristics

• 5+ years of backend development experience with 2+ years in a technical leadership role
• Deep expertise with Node.js, GraphQL, Postgres, ElasticSearch, or Kafka
• Strong track record of leading and mentoring engineering teams
• Strong system design and architecture skills
• Strong project management and prioritization skills
• Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Ability to balance technical excellence with business priorities
• Ability to write clean, high-quality, testable, reusable, and well-documented code
• Proficiency in the latest AI tools and technologies that enhance your productivity
• Live in, or be willing to relocate to the UAE

Would be great to have:

• Experience building fintech products
• Experience building and scaling engineering teams or startups
• Experience building developer tools or platforms that improve team productivity
• Experience with platform evolution, successfully leading major architectural transitions or migration efforts
• Active participation in the tech community through open source contributions, conference speaking, or technical blogging
