Senior Data Engineer AWS [CDI & Freelance]

Context

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be part of the B2B Belgium Business Platform.

Our main mission is to serve B2B clients in Belgium with electricity/gas, products and services, green energy, etc.

The platform brings together around 180 people, including 125 on the business side and 55 on the IS and DATA side.

Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our client’s Data team.

You will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable, efficient, and robust data solutions, pipelines, and models, in line with internal standards.

The objective is to support current and future data-driven initiatives.

Close collaboration with cross-functional teams, analysts, and project managers is essential to ensure that data is available, accessible, and actionable.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable data architectures (databases, AWS data lakes, data warehouses) in line with existing tools and frameworks.
• Build and optimize ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to transfer data from various sources to repositories.
• Combine diverse data sources into unified and coherent views (gold datasets) for analysis and reporting.
• Ensure data consistency, quality, and reliability throughout the data lifecycle.
• Manage and optimize the data infrastructure (storage, processing, delivery) in terms of efficiency, capacity, and costs.
• Act as a Tech Lead, coaching other Data Engineers and promoting best development practices.
• Develop and maintain data processing code in Python, Spark, SQL, and automate regular executions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, analysts, and developers to understand data needs and deliver appropriate solutions.
• Work with business stakeholders to collect and understand their data-related requirements.
• Collaborate with various teams to ensure scalability, security, and performance of data systems.
• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for data processes, pipelines, and architectures.
• Monitor production systems of the data platform.
• Share best practices with all data stakeholders, both IT and business.

Must-have:

• Proven experience as a Senior Data Engineer or in a similar role.
• Solid experience in data platform management.
• Proficiency in AWS services: S3, Athena, Glue, Redshift.
• Strong experience with Databricks (preferably on AWS).
• Strong programming skills in Python, Spark, SQL, or another data engineering language.
• Experience with data processing technologies.
• Knowledge of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).
• Knowledge of Dataiku.
• Knowledge of Azure DevOps and release pipelines.
• AWS Cloud Data Engineer certification.

Nice-to-have:

• Knowledge of systems such as Salesforce, SAP ISU.
• Familiarity with Agile tools such as Azure DevOps or Jira.
• Experience with financial closing reports is a plus.
• Additional AWS certifications (Solution Architect, Systems Administrator).

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
• At least 5 years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar position.

Languages

• Fluency in Dutch or French.
• Fluency in English.

Location

• Position based in Brussels city center.
• 2 to 3 days of remote work per week.
