Cyber Security Engineer

We are hiring a Cyber Security Engineer who will play a critical role within the Technology Department for our Aviation client. This role is responsible for managing and implementing the organisation’s Security Policy and ensuring that processes and procedures comply with Safety and Security requirements in Aviation or similarly regulated environments.
Responsibilities:
- Policy & Compliance: Develop and manage security programs in adherence to NIS/NIS-2 Security directives (or relevant regulatory standards). Identify compliance gaps and implement corrective action to meet standards set by regulatory authorities and cybersecurity centers.
- Security Coordination: Coordinate security requirements, system enhancements, and equipment replacement to align with safety specifications and business needs.
- Operational Security: Ensure operational security policies and procedures align with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Technical Guidance: Provide guidance on the secure design of critical infrastructure networks and systems.
- Risk Management: Conduct risk assessments to ensure alignment with standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and external regulatory bodies.
- Security Strategy Implementation: Execute the security strategy through solution design, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Training Oversight: Manage third-party security training programs and ensure training compliance with security standards.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify and drive initiatives to enhance security processes and close identified gaps.
- Incident Response: Develop incident response and recovery processes and procedures to mitigate security incidents.
- Governance: Strengthen governance processes, ensuring security-driven solutions are developed in consultation with engineering and management teams.
- System Recovery: Develop in-house capabilities for system restoration and repair in critical failure scenarios.
- Additional Duties: Provide support to leadership and participate in relevant forums and security groups as needed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, cybersecurity, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 4 years relevant experience in safety, compliance, or regulatory fields within a regulated industry.
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity best practices.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Strong customer focus.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of IP network infrastructure (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, IDS).
- Familiarity with risk assessment processes and experience engaging with regulatory authorities.
- Experience drafting procedures for regulated environments.
- Understanding of ISO 27001, NIST CSF, CIS benchmarks, and related cybersecurity standards.
- Experience with audit processes and compliance tools.
- Proficiency in the development and use of tools/databases (e.g., DISA/STIG, MS Access).
